Buy As You Band have declined the offer of competing at
the World Brass Band Championships in Kerkrade next year in favour of an
appearance at the prestigious Cheltenham Festival.
The Band has opted to give the World Premiere performance of John Pickards
Gaia Symphony instead of competing in Holland.
The Symphony is sixty-five minutes in duration and has taken the composer ten
years to complete. The Buy As You View Band has taken four years to produce a
recording of this colossal work and the premiere performance in Cheltenham
will be a significant development in Brass Band literature.
John Pickard has been the Composer in Residence with the Band for four years
and this major concert is seen as a fitting culmination of their collaborative
work together. 27/08/04
FORMER Sunnybannk conductor Brian Douglass dies suddenly.
