A Time For Peace - for solo cornet or flugelhorn and brass band  - by Peter Graham -

Already a popular solo for tenor horn and band, the composer has made this new arrangement of the theme from The Essence of Time especially for solo cornet or flugelhorn. At a time when the dark clouds of war are gathering, and life becomes increasingly hectic, it seems to offer solace and resolve. This new arrangement should quickly establish itself in the repertoire for concerts and entertainment contests.

ZIGEUNERWEISEN for Euphonium and Piano - Pablo de Sarasate  arr. Philip Wilby and Robert Childs -

Published as part of the popular Virtuosi Collection -a wide-ranging series of carefully edited arrangements for euphonium and piano, in which the solo parts have been meticulously prepared for performance on a brass instrument -this is perhaps Sarasate's most celebrated work.  Sarasate composed romances, fantasies, and made transcriptions of Spanish airs calculated to show off his great virtuosity. Zigeunerweisen, which translates as Gypsy Airs, is one of these show-cases. This arrangement encompasses the extremes of the gypsy temperament.

Parts for bass and treble clef soloists are included.

Prelude and Fugue: The Spitfire - William Walton arr. Eigar Howarth -

Originally part of the score Walton wrote for the film The First of the Few, this fabulous music found greater fame in the concert version he made in 1942. The Prelude is essentially a march in his best Crown Imperial style leads to a dazzling Fugue which incorporates a quiet interlude before the dramatic finale.  We are delighted to offer this stunning arrangement for symphonic brass ensemble byan acknowledged master of the art, in a beautiful presentation as part of our BRASS CONNECTION series.

Instrumentation: Piccolo Trumpet, 2 Cornets, 2 Trumpets, 4 Horns, 3 Trombones, Tuba, Timpani, Percussion.

CONCERTO 1945  for Trumpet or Cornet and Piano  - by Philip Wilby

This exciting new concerto for trumpet or cornet was written for Roger Webster and the Black Dyke Band. Ata time when we are being encouraged to survey the recent past, its title aims to catch a flavour of that spirit of optimistic vision which coloured the British psyche at the end of the Second War, at once heroic, elegiac, and confident.  The concerto's three movements are arranged in a circular pattern around a reflective slow movement. At the heart of that movement is a Cadenza, marked to be played off-stage, where the soloist is surrounded and supported by an addi.tional group of fanfare players. By contrast, the outer movements are energetic and brisk, at times heroic, and at times virtuosic.  This is a significant addition to the concerto repertoire and appears first in this version with piano accompaniment. Brass and wind band accompaniments will be published this year.

ISLAND MUSIC - by Stuart Johnson -

Commissioned by the Shanklin Town Brass Band, this four movement suite is sure to be a winner with bands of all abilities. The composer needs no introduction, having gained a fine reputation for well- crafted, idiomatic music which is fun to play and great to listen to.  Each movement depicts a different aspect of life on the Isle of Wight, from the Edwardian elegance of Shanklin Town itself to the drama of a great storm which destroyed the magnificent Pier, and the mysterious Tuba on the Downs.

PIECE HEROIQUE - CESAR FRANCK arr. Tony Rickard - inc optional organ part.

Cesar Franck was appointed as organist at the newly built Paris church of Saint Clotilde in 1858, though he wrote remarkably little music for the instrument. Piece HeroiOque was one of the Trois Pieces pour Grand Orgue written in 1878 for the inauguration of the new Cavaille-Coll organ at the Trocadero in Paris.  It's stately grandeur and stirring finale make an ideal concert item, and this skillful arrangement {which includes an optional organ part for added colour) retains the character of the original, while transferring it to the sonority of the brass band.  If you're looking for the next Elsa's Procession, then here it is -an ideal concert ending when you need a grandstand finish!
